Google har än en gång problem med Gmail. Problemen startade när Google skulle bekämpa spammare, men av misstag inaktiverade fel konton.
”We have been actively investigating a batch of accounts that were accidentally disabled and are currently in the process of re-enabling these accounts. This error occurred in an effort to target a large network of spammers to keep them out of the Gmail system and keep your inbox free from spam. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we re-enable these accounts as quickly as possible.” [källa]
Google säger alltså att de har återaktiverat alla felaktiga konton. Men enligt Google OS så är det fortfarande många användare som inte kan logga in. Och en del som har fått sitt konto tillbaka har problem med att de inte kan få tag på sina filer.
”While Gmail is a useful web application, you shouldn’t use it to store mission-critical files or information. And if you do, make sure you have backups: store your files on different storage mediums, forward your Gmail messages to other accounts or pray that Gmail team doesn’t have a bad day and disables your account.” säger Google OS
Har man information som är viktig så kan det alltså vara en bra idé att inte bara lagra den hos Google. Denna och tidigare incidenter visar att man inte alltid kan lita på att Google fungerar. Har man otur kan information försvinna.
I december 2006 hade Google en annan incident där de slarvade bort användarnas e-post.
